My start in Dalmatians occurred spontaneously in August 1998 after visiting a local park. Watching people enjoy their dogs led me to the local animal shelter, "just to see what was available". I was thinking of a GSP, Husky or Malamute, but that day there were five adorable female Dalmatians to choose from - who could resist! Needless to say, a few hours later I walked out with a little fireball named Jaz. I was very proud later that day when a woman in the pet store remarked, "My, your dog has wonderful markings!"

Jaz the spotted wonder!

Hayley relaxing

Soon I realized that Jaz needed a playmate. I thought a show quality puppy would be fun to raise, even though I had no plans to show dogs. Fortunately I received great advice from Joanne Nash of Rambler Dalmatians and Beth White of Melody Kennels. Beth had an adult show dog that she was trying to find a good home for, and "Hayley",  Ch Melody Red Hot And Rockin, eventually flew back with me after a business trip. As a trained show dog she helped me in the ring, and as a proven producer she gave us our first litter, co-bred with Beth and Claudia Aglar.

Hayley's first litter produced two champions, including "Marq", Ch Melody Diamond Marquis. I had no plans to keep a boy, but Marq won our hearts the day he was born. With Marq, I learned about the trials and tribulations of raising and training a show dog.  Today, Marq is retired from the show ring and lives the life of luxury keeping the girls in shape!

Busy at Washington Park

My big break came when "Busy", Ch Five Alarm N HiSpot Gitin Busy, came to live with me. Angie Henderson of HiSpot Dalmatians was kind enough to take a chance on me with this special girl. When we met her, Beth commented, "She's going to be a great Specials dog". Sure enough, she finished her championship in seven show weekends and has gone on to multiple BOBs and group placements, including Top 20 ranking through the first half of 2002.

More importantly, her loving nature and easygoing temperament makes her a joy to live with. We're very excited about her planned 2003 litter.
